International Hellenic University (IHU)

The International Hellenic University (I.H.U.), based in Thessaloniki, was organized and operates as a University based on Law 4610/2019 (Government Gazette 70 / t.A ‘/ 07-05-2019), consisting of synergies of the International University of Greece with the former Alexandreio Technological Educational Institution of Thessaloniki, the former Technological Educational Institution of Central Macedonia and the former Technological Educational Institution of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. The university has facilities, educational and administrative, in a total of eight cities, comprising from a total of 7 Schools with 34 Departments.

In the Internet of Containers project, IHU participates with the Department of Supply Chain Management. The Department belongs to the School of Economics and Management and is based in the city of Katerini. It is today the only undergraduate department of higher education in Greece with orientation and specialization in modern sectors of the Supply Chain. The mission of the Department is to provide its students with all the necessary academic supplies to develop into executives of companies and organizations for the design, implementation and control of business operations, which fall under the Supply Chain Management and Logistics. These functions go through the whole process of transforming raw materials into finished products. Examples include supplies, material handling, inventory management, order processing, warehousing, packaging, transportation, spare parts management, repairs, customer service, return handling, product or component reuse, recycling, the final disposal of waste, etc.

Partner #2Supply Chain Management extends beyond the business, including the management of all the flows of a supply channel, from the supplier to the final consumer. In addition, it includes coordination and cooperation with all supply chain partners, which can be raw material suppliers, carriers, producers / manufacturers, distribution centers, wholesalers, retailers and of course consumers. Supply Chain Management consolidates and completes the design, procurement, production, storage, transportation and sales both within the companies and between them and concerns any kind of products or services.

The purpose of the structure of the undergraduate curriculum and the content of the courses is to provide students with adequate theoretical and laboratory training in all subjects related to production management, supply chain and logistics systems that can be applied in it. As part of their studies, students are trained in supply chain management and economics, production process design and product management, as well as the use of technology applications and modern information systems, like supply chain management tools.

The Department is housed in building facilities covering 4,000 sq.m. and include 4 Laboratories of Computer – Information Systems, 2 Laboratories of Technology and Quality Control, 1 Laboratory of Warehouse and Inventory Management. There are also 2 amphitheaters, 4 classrooms, a library (with about 3,500 titles) and a reading room.
