Associate Professor of the Supply Chain Management Department of the International Hellenic University in Katerini, Greece, Dr. Naoum Tsolakis, participated as an invited speaker at the annual conference of the Industry Studies Association (ISA) 2025, which was held on 4–6 June 2025 at the MIT Samberg Conference Center, in Cambridge, United States of America.
His presentation entitled:
“Investigating AI-driven Strategies for Multisolving in Container Port Terminals” was held in the context of a special session at the MIT Sloan School of Management, upon invitation by the organizers.
This research work is part of the collaboration of the Department of Supply Chain Management with the Thessaloniki Port Authority S.A., within the framework of the research project IoC – Internet of Containers (www.iocontainers.gr). The aim of the project is to develop cutting-edge digital technologies that enhance transparency, sustainability and efficiency in the operational functions of cargo ports.
Dr. Tsolakis’ presentation highlighted:
– the role of Artificial Intelligence as a lever for solving complex and conflicting challenges (multisolving) in port ecosystems,
– the value of System Dynamics for modeling and understanding the trade-offs between economic efficiency, environmental performance and social well-being,
– the contribution of research to the digital transformation of operational functions, both in the public and private sectors of transport and logistics.
The paper was presented in collaboration with Professor Nitin Joglekar of Villanova University (USA).
This participation constitutes special recognition for the Department and the International Hellenic University, strengthening the role of the Greek scientific community in the international dialogue on innovation, sustainability and the digital transformation of logistics systems.
